Anethole and quercetin from star anise show anti-tumour activity against breast, colon, and prostate cancers by inhibiting NF-κB and inducing apoptosis. Star anise is also the source of shikimic acid, the precursor of Tamiflu, and has potent antifungal activity relevant for cancer patients with compromised immunity.

Cautions & Interactions
- Do not confuse with Japanese star anise (Illicium anisatum) — toxic!
