Berberine / Indian Barberry
Berberis aristata / Berberis vulgaris
Berberine activates AMPK (the body's metabolic master switch), inhibits cancer cell proliferation, induces apoptosis, inhibits angiogenesis, and suppresses metastasis. Studies show significant activity against breast, colon, liver, lung, and gastric cancers. It also improves insulin sensitivity — relevant since insulin promotes cancer growth.
