Periwinkle / Rosy Periwinkle
Catharanthus roseus
Periwinkle is the source of vincristine and vinblastine — two of the most important chemotherapy drugs in modern oncology used in leukemia, lymphoma, and breast cancer treatment. The herb itself also contains catharanthine and other alkaloids with activity against cancer cells. This plant demonstrates how traditional herbal medicine led directly to modern cancer drugs.
